Tale of Zarrad and the Egyptian Tunics
A young trader called Zarrad opened several stands at the same time on the “Golden Caravans’ Market” – the largest market. For a while trading went well and Zarrad was happy. Women quickly learned abouth the new trader, who sold jewells, veils, silk tunics, clothings and many other female temptations. Zarrad was encouraged so he bought more goods with the idea of selling even more.
But, just as quickly the news about Zarrad’s good were spread, the women quickly lost interest in these very same gooo sell it?”. Zarrad was scared because he did not know what to do with the unsold goods. He constantly asked himself “What should I do to sell it?” Buyers, of course, always existed. All kinds of different ladies came, but none of them showed interest in a particular stock and none of them did not wish to buy what Zarrad offered.
One days friends of Zarrad adviced him to go to the most experienced trader in town – Exer and ask for help. So he went!
Exer warmly accepted the young man and agreed to help him for his worries.
- Well, Exer? After I explained you the problem, will you be able to help?
- Yes, dear Zarrad, I will try with all of my heart. But what will hapen, young man, only God knows! – answered Exer with a smile.
- And what will it cost?
- What is your least demanded stock? – asked Exer.
- Well, the silk tunics from Egypt. And I have a lot of them. – answered Zarrad.
- Then it will cost you 3 silk tunics. – replied Exer and headed for the “Golden Caravans’.”
- Okay, I accept! – replied Zarrad as well and caught up with Exer’s fast walking.
When they arrived at Zarrad’s stands on the market, the young trader took out 9 gold coins and handed them to Exer. The old trader looked with wonder and confusion with his eyes:
- What are these coins? – asked Exer
- This is the value of the three egyptian tunics, each one costs three coins, so here are 9 coins.
- No, Zarrad, you did not understand me. I don’t want money, but 3 silk tunics.
- But why do you need them, you are a man?! Why would a man need female clothes? – wondered Zarrad.
- Well, for the only thing a real man of the East can do with them – trade – answered Exer with a smile.
In that very same moment on the stand appeared the beautiful Serrizah, the object of more than one or two hearts’ love. She started looking through the bright blue bodices. Exer saw her and asked Zarrad to serve the laldy. He offered her all of the kinds, he helped her try some of them and in the end she bought 3. Then Exer took out one of the silk tunics and packed it together with the blue bodices.
- And this, dear Lady, is a gift for You! A beautiful tunic, which is unknown to these lands and comes from Egypt, the main cloth of princesses and wealthy ladies like you. We believe that our town will have the opportunity to see a beautiful woman wear this royal dress.
The beautiful Serrizah was stunned from surpise and joy and instantly put on the new tunic, and went down the main street with a proud step.
- And now, young Zarrad, prepare for sales. I am sure that by the end of the day you will sell plenty of them. You should always remember, that it is not important to sell to the people, but to make them buy from you. People’s decision to purchase, whatever they coose and as much as they can afford, can be guided, as long as you know how to do it and not to do it too much. When the other women see this tunic, worn with pride by Serrizah, they will accept it in a whole different way than when you try to put it in their hands. This is why I gave one of the tunics as a gift.
- And why do you need the other two? – wondered the young Zarrad.
- I will give them to my wife and my daughter. Instead of telling them that these are Egyptian tunics, I will tell them that these are the tunics with which Serrizah himself dresses up. I will also tell them that on Zarrad’s stand these tunics are on a very good price. You can already realize, young friend, that in a couple of hours the whole town will hear the gossip. So prepare for work! So long, and let health be your eternal companion.
Old Exer left and soon dissapeared, while a woman approached the stand and asked:
- Young man, is this where I can find those silk tunics I saw somewhere down the street?
Zarrad smiled and got to work and in his mind sounded Exer’s voice:
“It is not important to sell to the people, but to make them buy from you!”
