Tale of Roha, the Desert Market and the Camel Caravan

The silenence had enveloped all streets and the candle lights had started fading one by one. The dreams entered the small white houses of Sultan City, the pearl of the Orient. People with faced the kingdom of dreams and rest with tired eyes.

The window of one of the howses was still bright. The young trader Roha could not fall asleep, since he was burdened by heavy worries. The great Desert Market was to come in honor of the Sultan – the most important market for all traders of the East. But Roha had a problem and did not know what to do. He was just about to get into bed, when he heard a knocking on the door. The young man opened and was surprised by the unespected guest.

- Hellp, do you accept late guests? – asked the old Exer with a smile.

- Welcome, Exer! Come in! Of course I expect guests! Sorry for the question, but why are you here in this late hour? The city is already sleeping!

- Well, young man, news travel fast in this city. I know that tomorrow come the traders from all over the Great Desert and that every one of them will try selling their goods and prevent others from doing the same. Whoever is the smartest, the cleverest, the fastest and the most considerable will become the best trader in the East. And since I know most of them, I know how they think, so I thought I could help you. Do you need my help?

- Of couse, Exer! Every piece of advice will come handy. I can’t find an answer of how to sell my goods before anyone else does since others will also offer similar things…

- Well, you basically have to do two things: First you have to know who your most wealthiest buyers are, and then you have to “build up the camel caravan.” Do you understand?

- I’m affraid no, respected Exer! – said Roha.

- Okay then, I will explain. Tomorrow I will tell you who to sell to and at what price? Okay?

- No, I will judge by myself – answered Roha.

- But I will help you sell to the Sultan Himself!

- Well, in that case…maybe. What comes next?

- Then I will go to the Sultan and I will tell him that I have a young trader who is worthy of being a husband of the beautiful princess, the Sultan’s daughter.

- And he will probably say that this can not happen since she is too young – laughed the young trader.

-  Yeah, probably… But I will tell him that the young trader rules all trading of the North Seas. I will tell him that even the Great Vizier, who is the owner of all trade ships, pays the young trader a tax in order to pass through the seas.

- Haha, and he will answer “Well, in that case, maybe…” Is that so?

- Correct! And then what do you thing will I do? – asked Exer.

- You will go to the Great Vizier’s paymaster here on the market and you will tell him that he has to pay a tax in order for his ships to sail through the North Seas.

- Yes, that’s what I’ll do. And what will he say?

- Well, he will say “Who the hell is this ingornat child that wants me to pay him?” And you will answer “What do you mean who? This the son-in-law of the Sultan himself” – laughed Roha from the bottom of his heart.

-And…? – Exer was also laughing out loud.

- And he will say “Well, in that case…”

- Well done, my friend. This is what you should do tomorrow. Not these specific action, but this particular way of thinking. And you will succeed. In trading you have to pick always the best buyer possible for your goods and after you show it to him, you should present the best arguments possible, so that he does not give up buying.
